What are common ecstasy signs of abuse?

If someone is using ecstasy or is high on ecstasy, you may notice changes in his or her behavior.   • Change in peer group; new friends
  • Change in sleeping pattern; awake for extended periods of time
  • Drop in grades, irregular school attendance; lost interest in hobbies, sports and other favorite activities
  • Hostile and uncooperative

  • Headaches, dizziness (from hangover/after effects)
  • Muscle tension

  • Dilated pupils/slow reacting pupils
  • Rise in pulse rate
  • Rise in body temperature/dehydration

  • Dehydration resulting in too much water being taken causing in imbalance of blood chemistry
  • Very high body temperature
  • Desire to do more to stave off after-effects
  • Depression and severe psychological crisis
  • Liver toxicity
  • Panic attacks
  • Neurotoxicity

Ecstasy signs of abuse that the person is "high"' on the drug:

  • Blurred vision, rapid eye movement
  • Chills or sweating, high body temperature, sweating profusely, dehydrated
  • Confusion
  • Faintness
  • Paranoia or Severe anxiety
  • Trance-like state
  • Transfixed on sights and sounds
  • Unconscious clenching of the jaw, grinding teeth
  • Very affectionate

Additional ecstasy signs of abuse and paraphernalia associated with rave/club culture:

  • Child-like costumes such as angel wings, glow sticks, glowing jewelry, children's backpack, teddy bears/children's toys, pacifiers
  • Signs of excessive water consumption at unusual times, such as bringing multiple water bottles to parties/raves or having an unusually large amount of empty water bottles in his or her bedroom or car

Monitoring your child or loved one is an important way to help them remain drug free. Know where they go, who they are with, ask them what they are doing and do not take no for an answer.
